History
Northern Wisconsin Panelized Home Pioneer
Custom Components of Eagle River, Inc. was founded by Glenn Schiffmann in 1990 with a mission to supply open wall framing packages to residential and light commercial builders in the Eagle River area. Over time, shifting land use policies, customer demands, and ambitious goals transformed the company into a fully integrated service group. Originally operating from a former potato and beer warehouse in downtown Eagle River, the business quickly outgrew its space within three years, marking the beginning of a steady expansion.
In 1992, Custom Components acquired the former Simpson Electric manufacturing facility on Willow Street to accommodate its rapid growth. This was the first of 19 real estate acquisitions, culminating in over 17 contiguous acres at the intersection of Highways 45, 17, 70, 32, and Willow Street.
Further expansion came in 1997 when Schiffmann and his childhood friend David Cox purchased Kwaterski Millworking of Merrill, WI, leading to the creation of Custom Millworking Inc. The company moved into a new 20,000-square-foot facility in 1998, equipped with advanced millwork machinery and spray booths to meet the growing needs of Custom Components and local builders. With this addition, Custom Components homes began incorporating custom interior and exterior features that complemented the Northwoods aesthetic.
To further enhance efficiency, a separate 20,000-square-foot materials storage facility was built in 1998, improving production schedules, material handling, and protection from harsh northern weather. As global market trends influenced construction materials, the facility enabled volume purchasing, allowing Custom Components to offer fixed-price contracts and price security for customers throughout their building projects.
